Report: NCAA investigating Pac-12 program for allegedly hosting recruits during pandemic dead period

A Pac-12 program is reportedly under investigation for hosting recruits on campus during the COVID-19-related dead period. The news was reported on Wednesday morning by Doug Haller of The Athletic.
Arizona State is the program facing an NCAA investigation because of potential recruiting violations. ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg was able to confirm with a school spokesperson that the football program is under investigation, but no specifics were provided.

In addition to allegedly hosting recruits on campus during the dead period, there are other potential recruiting violations the Sun Devils are facing. Those were not mentioned in the report.
The NCAA implemented a dead period that extended from March of 2020 through May 31, 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prospects were not permitted to take official or unofficial visits to campus and staffs were not allowed to do live evaluations of players.
Coaches and recruits could talk via phone, social media, Zoom and through other technological means to make up for the lack of face-to-face interaction.
