The NCAA is planning to ease some of the academic requirements for incoming student-athletes who are expected to graduate in the spring or summer of 2020, according to multiple reports.

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported on Friday that the NCAA is looking to provide an automatic COVID-19 waiver to student athletes if they meet the following criteria: meet core course requirements before their senior year of high school and maintained a 2.3 grade point average.

The ACT and SAT scores would be excluded.

March and April dates for the SAT and ACT tests were canceled due to the ongoing pandemic, which left some student-athletes in a sticky situation if they had not yet taken the tests or had not scored high enough to qualify for enrollment. It appears the NCAA is willing to trash that requirement for one year, given the circumstances.

It would certainly benefit many student-athletes and could save the NCAA from having to deal with several individual situations and circumstances further down the road.
