The city of Atlanta has lost the opportunity to host the 2020 Final Four because of the NCAA’s decision to cancel the annual tournament amidst the public health concerns involving coronavirus. But the association is planning to give the city another opportunity to host the event in the future.

According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, the NCAA will consider Atlanta for a Final Four host site when “there’s an opening on the calendar.” Rothstein points out that the pinnacle of college basketball events has a host site through the 2026 season.

Rothstein included those sites in his tweet on Monday:

The NCAA made the tough decision to cancel the annual tournament due to the outbreak of coronavirus across America. Other winter sports championships and spring sports have been canceled, as well.

Atlanta has been a host site for several college athletic events, including neutral-site college football games, the Peach Bowl, the SEC Championship game and NCAA Tournament games, among other things. It’s become a popular site for the NCAA to host events.

It’ll be back on the calendar to host a Final Four again, it’s just a matter of when.
