About a week after the Nebraska-Illinois game in Ireland was called off, the Huskers started working on plans to schedule a future game overseas. The Lincoln Journal-Star recently reported that Nebraska is already working on rescheduling the trip.
Per the report, Nebraska is hoping to be one of the two teams participating in the 2022 Aer Lingus Classic. The date for that game would be Aug. 27 and it would be played in Dublin, Ireland.
Right now, no future overseas game has been finalized.
The Nebraska-Illinois game was set to open the 2021 B1G football season, but was canceled due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns. Instead, the game will be played in Champaign and will still be set for Saturday, Aug. 28, the opening weekend of the year.
The Lincoln Journal-Star is also reporting that one of the most likely candidates to play the Huskers in Ireland would be division rival Northwestern, but there has been no confirmation.
