The new name, image and likeness opportunity for student-athletes is anything but the pits for Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez. Or is it?

According to CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd, Martinez is one of 14 student-athletes to sign an endorsement deal with Degree Deodorant. The other individuals who inked with the company were not mentioned in Dodd’s initial report.

A week ago, the NCAA approved an interim NIL policy that will allow student-athletes to profit off their name, image and likeness. The new policy took effect on July 1 and is valid for all Division I schools across all 50 states. Multiple states had approved legislation to allow college student-athletes to profit off their brand, forcing the NCAA to make a decision quickly.

Specifics regarding the deal for Martinez were not mentioned, either.

Martinez will be entering his fourth season as the starting quarterback for the Huskers. In his first three years in Lincoln, he’s throws for 5,628 yards and 31 touchdowns. Martinez has also rushed for 1,776 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Last season, Martinez completed a career-best 71.5% of his passes for 1,055 yards. He threw 4 touchdown passes and had 3 interceptions and also rushed for an additional 521 yards and 7 scores.

The Huskers are scheduled to open the 2021 season on the road against Illinois in Week 0.
