There are a lot worse places to land in the NFL Draft than New England. And as frustrating as it probably is for Justin Fields to hear that his stock is dropping with just a few days until the event, joining up with Bill Belichick and the Patriots doesn’t sound so bad.

Speaking on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, Mike Giardi says that teams with a Top 10 spot in the NFL Draft believe New England is targeting Fields.

“Are they going to take a big swing in the draft? If you want to look at connections with quarterbacks, they’ve seen several of these guys. They were at Mac Jones’ Pro Day. Will Mac Jones end up in the 10, 12, 15 range? Unknown. Seems like he looks like a lock to the San Francisco 49ers,” Giardi said, per 247Sports. “They were at Trey Lance’s Pro Day, but they did not send Josh McDaniels — their offensive coordinator. McDaniels saw Mac Jones, he saw Kyle Trask and he saw Justin Fields’ second Pro Day. You heard last hour Tom Pelissero say the teams in the Top 10 have said the Patriots have made some calls and they believe the target is Justin Fields.”

Fields was once expected to be the No. 2 quarterback in the NFL Draft, behind only Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence. Since the end of the college football season, however, the former Ohio State leader has slipped on draft boards.

Fields is still considered a first-round selection on Thursday night, but he could fall anywhere from the No. 2 spot to outside the Top 10. But it sounds like at least one franchise is looking at drafting the former Buckeye if he’s still available.
