It’s been a rough year for Nick Bosa from a health standpoint.
Last season, the Ohio State defensive end was injured midway through the third game of the season against TCU, knocking him out for the remainder of the year. Now, an ankle injury for the No. 2 overall pick will delay his NFL debut.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports reported that Bosa sustained an ankle injury and will be on the sideline through at least the preseason. His absence could potentially seep into the regular season, as well.
“We won’t see him in the preseason and we’ll go from there,” San Francisco 49ers GM John Lynch said. “We’ll get him right and he’ll be a great player for a long time in this league.”
#49ers GM John Lynch on @knbr said Nick Bosa sustained an ankle sprain that will knock him out for the exhibition season, at least. “We won’t see in the preseason and we’ll go from there. … We’ll get him right and he’ll be a great player for a long time in this league."

The severity of the sprain is unknown, so the 49ers could be playing things safe with their first-round draft pick. Playing in the preseason really isn’t worth the risk.
No specific timetable was provided on Bosa’s return, but it sounds like Lynch is hopeful the defensive lineman will be back for the regular season.
