According to USA Today Sports national columnist Dan Wolken, Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano has emerged the main focus in Tennessee’s search for a new head coach.

Now, Tennessee has been in talks with Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen. But those talks have stalled because Mullen is waiting to see whether or not he can land the Florida job. That is why Schiano is emerging as the leader for the Volunteers’ coaching job.

And according to Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel, Florida is targeting Mullen as its next coach. So, Schiano is the assumed front runner for the Tennessee job.

Schiano is in his second season at Ohio State after coming over to the Buckeyes following a failed tenure as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Before Tampa Bay, Schiano was 68-67 at Rutgers.

Tennessee fired Butch Jones two weeks ago after an embarrassing loss to Missouri, and finished 4-8 this season.
