Ohio State long snapper Roen McCullough has decided to medically retire.
He announced that decision on Thursday morning and revealed that he was diagnosed with a heart condition in late 2020 and suffered a serious shoulder injury this summer.

“It’s been a long, hard process but necessary in the long run,” McCullough wrote in-part. “Putting this situation in God’s hands and trusting His plans far supersede any I have made for myself. Appreciate those who have reached out so far.”
The news of his departure was first reported by 247Sports. McCullough entered camp as the backup to starter Bradley Robinson.
McCullough also served as Robinson’s backup last season. The 6-foot-1, 230-pound McCullough was following after his brother Liam McCullough, a member of the Las Vegas Raiders who was Ohio State’s starting long snapper from 2016-19.
Now there’s only two long snappers remaining on Ohio State’s roster: Robinson and true freshman Max Lomonico. Robinson, a sixth-year senior, arrived at Ohio State in 2017 after a stint with Michigan State.
Ohio State kicks off the season with a primetime matchup at Minnesota on Sept. 2 ( 8 p.m. EST/FOX).
