Report: Ohio State safety suspended following second OVI arrest

Experienced Ohio State defensive back Marcus Hooker has been suspended indefinitely following being arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while impaired, according to a report from Cleveland.com. This is the second time the safety has faced charges related to driving under the influence.
Per the report, Hooker was arrested over the weekend and he is scheduled to be arraigned at Franklin County Municipal Court on Friday, March 19. That’s the same day Ohio State is planning to begin spring practice.
Hooker’s first offense came in the summer of 2018 when he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, purchase of alcohol by a minor, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and having no rear lights. That arrest came before his freshman season and he was suspended for the team’s season opener against Oregon State.
Hooker started the 2020 season as Ohio State’s starting safety but Josh Proctor eventually won the job later in the season. He totaled 15 tackles, 2 pass break-ups, a fumble recovery and an interception while playing in 7 games for the Buckeyes. OSU finished the year 7-1.
In three years with the Buckeyes, Hooker has played in 23 career games and has made 23 tackles with 3 pass break-ups.
Ohio State will host 15 practices beginning Friday and plans to host its annual spring game on Saturday, April 17.
