Report: Old Dominion to extend head football coach Ricky Rahne

Old Dominion is reportedly working on an extension for head football coach Ricky Rahne. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the news on Monday.
Per the report from Thamel, Rahne and Old Dominion agreed to add a one-year extension to his contract. That will keep him in charge of the Monarchs through the 2026 season.
Rahne has been the head coach at Old Dominion since 2020 but has only coached one season. The program opted out of the 2020 campaign because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Monarchs finished the regular season with a .500 record and a bowl appearance in Rahne’s first season in 2021.
Despite an ugly 1-6 start to the season, ODU rallied in the second half of the season, ripping off 5 straight victories to close the regular season with a 6-6 record and earn a trip to the Myrtle Beach Bowl. The Monarchs fell to Tulsa 30-17 to end the year 6-7.
The 2022 season will be a year of change for the Monarchs, which are transitioning from C-USA to the Sun Belt. It will be the first season in the conference.
Prior to taking the job at Old Dominion, Rahne was at Penn State for 6 seasons. He was the quarterbacks coach in 2014 and 2015 and transitioned to coaching the tight ends for the 2016 and 2017 season. Rahne was then the offensive coordinator for the Nittany Lions in 2018 and 2019.
