Report: One of college football’s best young coaches ‘expected’ to interview with New York Jets

According to a report, Iowa State’s Matt Campbell is a candidate for the New York Jets coaching vacancy.
Campbell, who reportedly turned down the Jets two years ago during the coaching search that landed them Adam Gase (and subsequently, now, searching for a head coach again), seems to be a bit more open-minded this time around when it comes to making the jump to the NFL.
Campbell’s interest in the Cyclones was first reported by CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora.
One of the best young college coaches around, the 41-year old Campbell certainly has things trending the right way for the Cyclones.
It was believed and reported that Campbell would have been targeted by Michigan had Jim Harbaugh left Ann Arbor this offseason.
The Jets interest has to be good news for Kirk Ferentz and Iowa, the potential clearing of an energetic young coach out of the state can only help recruiting and buzz. The program is clearly trending in the right direction.
Having just completed his fifth season at Iowa State, the program has just one losing season under Campbell (his first year with the Cyclones, for what it is worth). This past season, No. 10 Iowa State was 9-3 and won in the Fiesta Bowl over No. 25 Oregon.
The Jets job is probably the second-most interesting one in the NFL this year. They own two first round picks including second overall. They have a young quarterback in Sam Darnold who some believe is a franchise quarterback and they have the second-most projected salary cap space in the league heading into the offseason.
