Report: Purdue DC Brad Lambert finalizing deal for move to the ACC

Purdue’s dramatic defensive turnaround and 9-win season had a lot to do with Brad Lambert’s arrival as defensive coordinator. Unfortunately, that stint in West Lafayette will end after just one season.
In 2019 and 2020, Purdue gave up right at 30 points a game. After Lambert’s arrival, the Boilermakers shaved a full touchdown off that average, giving up 22.4 points per game in 2021. That mark ranked 34th nationally.
Despite those strong results, Lambert is back on the move, finalizing a deal with Wake Forest to head to the ACC. That is per Pete Thamel with Yahoo! Sports as of Tuesday evening. The announcement by Wake Forest is expected within 24 hours.

Lambert has ties to the program after spending 2001-10 with the Demon Deacons and also coached at Charlotte from 2011-18. Either way, the loss of Lambert opens up a big vacancy on Jeff Brohm’s coaching staff.
