Purdue is hiring Navy defensive backs coach James Adams to the same role, according to multiple reports.

As ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg notes, Adams is replacing the departed Anthony Poindexter, who is now at Penn State.

Adams coached Navy’s secondary for one season, but has a lot of coaching experience at the Group of 5 level. He’s also been at Western Michigan, Charlotte and Wofford.

As a player, Adams’ roots go back to the east coast. He played linebacker at Wake Forest and graduated in 2006. He originally hails from Durham, North Carolina.

This addition should round out Purdue’s coaching staff for the 2021 season, which has undergone multiple changes this offseason.

The Boilermakers will open the 2021 campaign against Oregon State on Sept. 4.
