Just a few days before Purdue is set to open the 2021 season at home against Oregon State, the team’s linebacker unit has taken a hit.
Rivals.com is reporting that Robert McWilliams has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal. He spent four full seasons with the Boilermakers and was a member of the 2017 recruiting class.
McWilliams played in 4 games while at Purdue and was credited with 5 tackles with 3 solo stops and a tackle for loss. Unable to see the field for much time in West Lafayette, he’s moving on to continue his playing career elsewhere.

As a high school prospect, McWilliams was a 3-star recruit out of Miami. He picked Purdue over offers from FIU, Fresno State, FAU and McNeese State.
The Boilermakers are preparing to enter their fifth season under head coach Jeff Brohm. The defense in West Lafayette has been suspect the past three years, something the coaching staff is hoping changes in 2021.
Purdue opens the year at Ross-Ade Stadium Saturday night for a Power 5 showdown against Oregon State.
