Purdue has been brainstorming ideas for a way to remember and honor superfan, team captain and student Tyler Trent. University President Mitch Daniels says an announcement on the plans will come on Wednesday.
Trevor Peters of WLFI tweeted out that Daniels will announce the physical campus memorial for Trent outside Ross-Ade Stadium Gate E. That was the entrance in which Trent camped outside prior to Purdue’s game against Michigan in 2017.
Trent passed away on New Year’s Day 2018.

A few months ago, Daniels told WLFI that Purdue was working some ideas on ways to remember Trent, who’s story captured and inspired millions across the country.
“You oughta expect that,” Daniels said of a memorial to Trent. “We’re working on some ideas, we’ve been gathering and had some really good suggestions and I think we’re centering on one. Before long, we’ll probably be able to make that known.
“It’s just a matter of trying to determine the best, most tasteful and appropriate way to remember him.”
In the last months of his life, Trent promoted cancer research and joined the fight with ESPN through the V Foundation. A bobblehead doll and biography were also sold to help raise money for cancer research.
Trent will always have a place in the hearts of the Purdue community as his story and attitude reached so many.
