The search continues.
With Greg Schiano and Rutgers failing to agree to a deal, the university is still looking for the right candidate to fill its head coaching vacancy. As the search continues, some interesting names have surfaced as potential candidates for the job.
ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg mentioned several head coaches and assistant coaches who have been tied to the vacancy. Those names are:
- Anthony Campanile — Michigan LB coach
- Jeff Hafley — Ohio State co-DC/secondary coach
- Steve Addazio — Boston College head coach
- Joe Moorhead — Mississippi State head coach
- Chris Creighton — Eastern Michigan head coach
Rutgers chose to hire Chris Ash in 2016, who had done an excellent job as a defensive coordinator and assistant coach at Wisconsin and Ohio State. But the lack of head coaching experience really showed as he attempted to rebuild the Scarlet Knights.
It would seem to be in Rutgers’ best interest to hire someone with head coaching experience, but there are no guarantees with that, either.
With the 2019 season coming to a close, Rutgers should be making some moves quickly before the coaching carousel really picks up speed.
