Stanford won’t be cutting the nearly one dozen athletic programs it had planned to at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ann Killion of the San Francisco Chronicle reported that Stanford University will be reinstating the 11 varsity programs it had initially planned to eliminate because of cost-cutting measures related to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Per the report, Stanford did not return a request for comment but the school is expected to make an announcement on the situation later today. A meeting is also expected to take place with the coaches of those teams

The teams that Stanford had planned to cut were:

  • Men’s & women’s fencing
  • Field hockey
  • Lightweight and men’s rowing
  • Co-ed & women’s sailing
  • Squash
  • Synchronized swimming
  • Men’s volleyball
  • Wrestling

Stanford was one of many athletic departments to announce planned sports cuts because of the 2020 pandemic.
