Northwestern has received news on the status of backup quarterback TJ Green, and it’s rather unfortunate.
Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune is reporting that Green will miss the rest of the 2019 season after undergoing foot surgery earlier this week. He suffered the injury in Northwestern’s season-opening 17-7 loss to No. 24 Stanford on Saturday.
Green stepped in for a struggling Hunter Johnson earlier in the game, but was forced to leave following the injury. That severely trims the amount of depth and experience the Wildcats now have in the quarterback room moving forward.

Green threw 10 passes in Northwestern’s loss to Stanford, completing six for 62 yards. He had three carries for 10 yards, as well.
Johnson, the former five-star prospect and Clemson transfer, started the game for the Wildcats but struggled mightily in the first few possessions. He finished the afternoon completing just 6-of-17 for 54 yards. He had two interceptions with no touchdown tosses.
Northwestern has an off week before returning to the field next Saturday. The Wildcats host UNLV.
