Report: Texas Tech football player hospitalized following shooting

Texas Tech redshirt freshman John Scott III is in the hospital after being shot twice outside of a pool party in Lubbock, according to a report.

LubbockOnline.com was one of multiple outlets to report on the incident that occurred on Saturday. The shooting was near a student apartment complex pool in the evening. Scott was seriously injured but was in stable condition, according to the report.

Scott was one of two people injured in the shooting. Texas Tech released a statement Saturday evening.

“Texas Tech Athletics was made aware of an unfortunate incident this afternoon involving Red Raider redshirt freshman defensive lineman John Scott III, who remains hospitalized at University Medical Center (UMC) at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.”

According to the report, approximately 200 people were around the pool area when the shooting occurred. Police issued a safety alert to the campus community after the incident.

Scott finished his first year at Texas Tech and was redshirted in his freshman season. He is studyng kinesiology, according to his bio on TexasTech.com.
