A Michigan State assistant coach is reportedly on his way out of East Lansing to join a Mountain West program.

Tuesday morning, Adam Rittenberg of ESPN reported that defensive assistant Terrence Samuel is expected to take a position on the UNLV staff as a wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. Samuel was previously the wide receivers coach at Michigan State from 2011 to 2018 before transitioning into the defensive role last year.

Samuel’s transition to the other side of the football came when then-head coach Mark Dantonio opted to reshuffle his staff after the 2018 season. He also coached wide receivers as Central Michigan and North Dakota State before joining the staff in East Lansing.

Samuel’s experience on the sideline spans two decades, with the last nine years being spent in East Lansing. His departure comes after Dantonio announced his decision to resign as head coach. Michigan State is conducting a search to find its next head coach.
