Report: Urban Meyer is ‘assembling a coaching staff’ in case he takes NFL head coach job

It seems like Urban Meyer to the Jacksonville Jaguars is becoming a certainty, with the former college coach now piecing together a staff. That’s a good sign, right?

And while nothing is yet official between Meyer and the NFL team, it appears to be all but a done deal that Meyer will be taking over the AFC South side. And he appears to have a projected staff pieced together, one that likely includes some of his former assistants.

Hail, hail, the gang’s all here.

The Jaguars enter the offseason a most intriguing project for Meyer. A 1-15 record does not indicate the talent level on the roster but was, however, good enough for the No. 1 pick in the spring’s NFL Draft (the Jaguars have two first round picks in the draft this year). They also come into the offseason boasting the most projected salary cap space.

So Meyer could be taking over a team that includes top pick Trevor Lawrence and plenty of salary cap space.

Meyer would be wise to include in his staff some significant NFL experience, especially since he’s never coached on Sundays. The former Ohio State head coach, currently an analyst at FOX, won the national championship with the Buckeyes in 2014.

He has a total of three national championships, including two while head coach at Florida.
