Less than a year after taking over as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Urban Meyer is out. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news in the early morning hours on Thursday.

Jacksonville is currently 2-11 this season, but the record has hardly been the only issue during Meyer’s first (and only) year. The news of the firing comes hours after former kicker Josh Lambo accused Meyer of kicking him during warmups.

“It was ‘kicker, punter, long snapper,’” Lambo said. “Or S–tbag, Dips–t or whatever the hell it was.”

Lambo then confirmed that the kick wasn’t a love-tap and that he’d register it as a 5 out of 10.

“It certainly wasn’t as hard as he could’ve done it, but it certainly wasn’t a love tap,” Lambo said. “Truthfully, I’d register it as a five (out of 10). Which in the workplace, I don’t care if it’s football or not, the boss can’t strike an employee. And for a second, I couldn’t believe it actually happened. Pardon my vulgarity, I said, ‘Don’t you ever f–king kick me again!’ And his response was, ‘I’m the head ball coach, I’ll kick you whenever the f–k I want.’”

The latest comments from Lambo were the final straw for Meyer’s tenure.

Throughout the course of the season, there had been reports of friction between Meyer, staff members and players. With the losses piling up and controversy accelerating, the Jaguars had no option but to cut ties.

Meyer did not make it through a complete season as an NFL head coach. Jacksonville still has 4 games remaining on the schedule before the 2021 campaign comes to a close.

Darrell Bevell will serve as the interim head coach of the Jaguars for the remainder of the season.
