Wisconsin’s tight end situation just took a hit.
On Monday, the Badgers reported that tight end Gabe Lloyd will miss the 2019 season because of a leg injury. He had surgery and will use the year to recover and rehab.
Lloyd has appeared in 21 career games at Wisconsin, but has not made a catch with the program. He has made three tackles during his career. He played in all 13 games for the Badgers last season, primarily on special teams. He did see a few snaps as tight end, though.

The Badgers still have a really good option at tight end, as Jake Ferguson will be the No. 1 guy after catching 36 passes for 456 yards and four touchdowns as a freshman last season. However, depth may now be a concern.
During the offseason, the Badgers lost Kyle Penniston, who decided to transfer to Rutgers after the 2018 campaign. He totaled just three catches for 18 yards and a touchdown, but he could’ve had a more significant role this season.
Tight end will just be another position group that lacks experienced depth behind the starter this year in Madison.
