The Owls have unveiled a special moon mission-themed uniform for Saturday’s home game against McNeese State.

Sept. 12 is the 60th anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s famous moon speech given at Rice University. Kennedy included a line about Rice playing Texas (when referencing challenges), so perhaps the Owls will have to bring these back next time they face the Longhorns in football. Saturday’s uniforms feature Kennedy’s speech written on the shoulder pads.
The demo jersey has “HOU. TX” in place of the last name. Rice campus is located near NASA’s Houston Space Center. NASA is planning to launch Artemis 1, the first flight of its Artemis 1 program, sometime this year.
