Ron Zook lands new assistant coaching position, per report

Ron Zook isn’t quite done coaching just yet. Zook has reportedly landed a defensive coordinator coaching position in the XFL.
Zook will be on Jim Haslett’s staff, according to Bruce Feldman. Haslett will be coaching the league’s Seattle franchise.
Former UF and Illinois head coach Ron Zook and former Hawaii and SMU head coach June Jones have been hired to Jim Haslett’s staff in the XFL. Zook will be the DC and Jones will be the OC.

In February, Zook stepped down from his role on Mike Locksley’s Maryland staff. Zook, who turned 68 in April, joined Locksley’s Terrapins staff as a senior analyst in 2019. In February 2021, he was promoted to the roles of Associate Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator/Outside Linebackers. When Zook was a head coach at Florida and Illinois, Locksley served as running backs coach (Florida, 2003-04) and offensive coordinator (Illinois, 2005-08).
Zook got his start in coaching in 1978 as a defensive backs coach at Murray State. From 1988-to-1990, he was defensive backs coach at Ohio State. As a head coach, Zook is 57-65 all time, including 34-51 at Illinois (2005-11).
