Former Ohio State and current Cleveland Browns safety Ronnie Hickman was jumped and assaulted in a New York City hotel early Monday morning. According to several reports, Hickman received minor injuries and was released from the hospital a short time ago.

According to the New York Post, Hickman was approached by 4 people just before 5 a.m. at SIXTY LES hotel, on the east side of Manhattan. Hickman was then punched before the perpetrators were captured. No arrests have been made at this time, and it is uncertain if Hickman was recognized as an NFL player.

The Cleveland Browns released the following statement regarding the incident

Hickman is a star in the making with the Cleveland Browns after 3 seasons in Columbus. The former Buckeyes just turned in his best season yet, totaling 51 solo tackles, 7 pass deflections and a career-high 2 interceptions. He finished the season with 103 tackles overall.

And while the Browns didn’t have an excellent season, Hickman helped put together a Browns secondary that was as good as just about any team in football against the pass. Cleveland allowed opponents just 167 passing yards per game, which ranked 3rd in the NFL behind only the Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings.
