Rutgers, Chris Ash reportedly agree to two-year contract extension

Rutgers will be keeping head coach Chris Ash around a little bit longer.

NJ.com’s Ryan Dunleavy has reported that Rutgers and Ash have agreed to a two-year contract extension, which will keep the Scarlet Knights head coach in Piscataway through the 2022 season. The updated five-year deal is further evidence that athletic director Pat Hobbs is pleased with the progress he’s seen on the field.

According to Dunleavy, the two additional years that were added to the three remaining years are worth $5.1 million. He will make $2.2 million in the 2018 season.

Rutgers is coming off a 4-8 season with three B1G wins this year. Last year, the Scarlet Knights finished just 2-10 and didn’t post a single win in conference play. The three league wins came against Illinois, Purdue and Maryland.

Overall, Ash is 6-18 in his first two seasons at Rutgers but the progress made from Year 1 to Year 2 was noticeable on the field. That jump was enough to reaffirm that Ash is the right fit in Piscataway.
