Rutgers interim coach Nunzio Campanile releases statement following season finale vs Penn State

Another disappointing season has mercifully come to an end.
Things have not always been this disappointing for Rutgers. Unfortunately, it has become all too common with five straight losing seasons of 8+ losses each year.
This season was a bit different in that two different coaches served as the head coach. Chris Ash started the year but was fired after starting the year 1-3 and with a losing record over parts of four seasons with the program. After his dismissal, Nunzio Campanile was elevated to interim head coach.
The results did not improve with Campanile leading the Scarlet Knights to a 1-7 overall mark without a conference win. The season officially ended with a 27-6 loss at Penn State on Saturday.
Following the loss, Campanile put out a statement on Twitter. He thanked the “Rutgers Football Family” for the opportunity to serve as the interim head coach and praised the players as “high-character young men.”
Here’s his statement:

There remains a chance that Campanile does wind up back with Rutgers in some capacity. For now, fans will have to wait as a coaching search that began in October continues to drag on.
