Rutgers lands graduate transfer QB from TCU

One of the big Rutgers storylines heading into the summer was who would win the quarterback battle.
Would it be returning starter Chris Laviano or would Hayden Rettig get a shot?
Now, add a third name to that conversation.
Former TCU quarterback Zach Allen announced on Wednesday that he’ll transfer to Rutgers. He’ll be eligible to play immediately in 2016.

He’ll actually have two years of eligibility remaining after graduating from TCU in three years.
Allen wanted a chance to play quarterback again after he was moved to receiver last year. He appeared in 13 games, but most of those were as the team’s holder.
The 6-3, 210-pound signal-caller dealt with a sports hernia injury for much of 2015. He could be the dual threat Drew Mehringer is looking for in his up-tempo offense. Allen posted 2,175 yards and 24 touchdowns while rushing for 941 yards and nine scores in his senior season of high school in Texas.
He figures to enter the equation immediately as a serious competitor for the starting quarterback job.
