Rutgers football is making yet another switch a quarterback.

The Scarlet Knights are starting Gavin Wimsatt over Evan Simon and Noah Vedral against Minnesota Saturday afternoon. Wimsatt hasn’t played since Rutgers’ 16-14 win over Temple on Sept. 17.

Rutgers currently sits at 4-3 following its 24-17 win over Indiana last week. Vedral, who’s missed time this season due to an upper-body injury, went 12-of-24 passing for 113 yards and a touchdown.

The Scarlet Knights trusted their run game and defense to do most of the heavy lifting in that game. Rutgers tallied 192 rushing yards while the defense scored on an interception at the goal line against IU quarterback Connor Bazelak in the 4th quarter.

Vedral has struggled with consistency this season after leading Rutgers to a bowl game in 2021. In 3 games, he’s completed 46.2% of his passes for 1 touchdown. Simon, Rutgers’ primary starter in place of Vedral, has fared worse, completing just 57.7% of his throws for 4 touchdowns against 6 interceptions.

Wimsatt, known for his mobility, has completed 10-of-23 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown against 2 interceptions. He is also averaging 8.2 yards per carry as a runner off 13 attempts.
