Rutgers QB Artur Sitkowski contemplating taking redshirt season after playing three games

Artur Sitkowski will not be Rutgers’ quarterback Saturday when the team hosts Maryland.
Kickoff is set for noon ET and the game will be televised on BTN.

Sitkowski has played in three games to this point this season while quarterback McLane Carter — the team’s designated starter — has been injured the last three games. Sitkowski has stepped in and the team has lost each of its last three contests.
On Thursday, interim head coach Nunzio Campanile said that he spoke with Sitkowski and the sophomore is contemplating taking a redshirt season:
“I had a discussion with Art this morning and he came to me and said he’s considering — he obviously had a really tough week and he’s going through a lot — so he’s contemplating evaluating taking a redshirt,” Campanile told reporters Thursday, four days after replacing fired head coach Chris Ash. “He asked not to play in this game so we’ll give him some time, supporting him 1,000 percent. He’s a great kid. He’s been a valuable asset to this team. So we’re going to take time. He’s ready to in an emergency role be the backup and ready to play but obviously there’s a lot of changes this week so we want to make sure we do the right thing by him.”
Campanile wasn’t shocked at what Sitkowski is potentially deciding on doing:
“It was certainly a curveball but it wasn’t totally unexpected,” Campanile said. “I can only imagine how emotional the whole (firing of Ash and McNulty) is for him.”
Former head coach Chris Ash isn’t the only one who has been fired over the last week at Rutgers — so has former offensive coordinator John McNulty. Sitkowski has built a relationship with his former coach and offensive coordinator over the last year and several months.
Carter remains out indefinitely and with Sitkowski thinking about taking a redshirt season, that leaves Rutgers with Johnny Langan, a redshirt transfer from Boston College who played under Campanile at Bergen Catholic two years ago.
