Rutgers’ running back room is getting a little bit smaller.
On Saturday, Rutgers redshirt sophomore running back Elijah Barnwell announced via Twitter that he’ll be entering the NCAA transfer portal. It does not sound like he intends to return to Piscataway, though he does have that option, should that be in his best interest.
Barnwell posted a lengthy message on Twitter on Saturday night, explaining his decision.
Thanks Rutgers University ❤️ it’s been real 💯✌🏽 pic.twitter.com/y97G0beKR8

Barnwell is finishing up his third season in Piscataway. He redshirted in his first season in 2017 and made his first career appearance in 2018 in a game against Ohio State. Barnell took on a bigger role this year, playing in 11 games.
This season, Barnwell has taken 10 carries for 81 yards and caught one pass for eight yards. He’s also recorded two tackles in his career at Rutgers.
Rutgers is 2-9 on the season and will take on Penn State in the season finale next weekend.
