After catching only 17 passes for 170 yards and a score during his first two seasons of game action, Rutgers redshirt junior wide receiver Shameen Jones enjoyed a breakout 2020 campaign, registering 34 receptions for 378 yards and three touchdowns, finishing as the Scarlet Knights’ second-leading pass-catcher.

Hoping to build on this foundation and post even better numbers in a full season as a redshirt senior, the Bronx, New York native spoke to reporters Wednesday and discussed his focus for making this happen.

“I think for me it’s just being more consistent,” he said, courtesy of NJ.com’s Keith Sargeant. “I want to be a factor. So everyday I’m trying to come out and be better, make more big plays, and I’m just trying to impact the game more on a consistent basis.”

Rutgers’ only student-athlete to post more receiving yards than Jones a year ago was Bo Melton, a fellow redshirt senior who was named to the 2021 Biletnikoff Award Watch List, giving quarterback Noah Vedral – yet another fifth-year senior – a pair of proven weapons to work with.

Entering the second year of head coach Greg Schiano’s second stint in Piscataway, the Scarlet Knights will begin their 2021 season on Thursday, September 2 by hosting the Temple Owls at 6:30 p.m. ET on BTN.
