Rutgers utilizes bizarre strategy on first drive of 2022 season

Rutgers football is back, but things are not off to a great start for the Scarlet Knights.

It started right out of the gate with starting quarterback Noah Vedral sidelined. As a result, the Scarlet Knights used 3 different players under center on the first 3 plays of the 2022 season.

Needless to say, it didn’t work out too well with Rutgers punting quickly after a 3-and-out.

The Scarlet Knights finally settled on Gavin Wimsatt under center moving forward. He generated a solid drive with Rutgers rolling all the way down inside the 10-yard line.

Unfortunately, after setting up a 1st-and-goal situation, Rutgers went backward. Offensive pass interference, holding, an incomplete pass, a false start and a sack on 3rd-and-goal led to the team punting on a 4th-and-goal situation.

That is not the kind of start you are looking for.
