Ryan Day is going to be heading in a different direction with the kick return game. Chip Trayanum will get an opportunity on Saturday against Toledo, and Day is excited to see what he can do per Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors.
Emeka Egbuka gave his support for the Arizona State transfer as a returner. Now Day is going to give him a chance. Day has liked what he’s seen from Trayanum in practice.
“We’re gonna give him an opportunity and see how it goes,” Day said Thursday. “We think that he’s shown us enough that he’s earned the right to take it back. And I think the guys believe in him. So like anything else, we’ll put him back there and then evaluate after the game and kind of see where to go next.”
Trayanum has appeared in both games so far for Ohio State. As a linebacker, he has 3 solo tackles this season. Trayanum will be embracing his new role with the Buckeyes.
“We’re hoping to get the ball in his hands and see what he can do,” Day said. “I think the guys believe in him. And we’re looking forward to seeing if we get one out. We didn’t have a chance last week, but maybe we’ll see what happens this week.”
Ohio State and Toledo kick off Saturday at 7 p.m. ET on FOX.
