Ryan Day complimentary of Ohio State’s defense after key effort vs. Nebraska

Ryan Day was not thrilled with the way his offense looked in Ohio State’s Week 9 game against Nebraska. Fortunately, the defense left no doubt with a dominant effort and some big moments late.
Immediately after the game, Day said this one truly was close in the 4th quarter because Ohio State could not run the ball. Outside of some chunk plays in the passing game, it was a forgettable afternoon for the offense.
“It came down to us really not being able to run the football. That’s what it came down to, so we never really controlled the game,” said Day. “We had some big plays, I thought Will (Howard) did a good job down the field with that. We had the big turnover here coming out that flipped the game.”
On the flip side, Day said his message to the team has been about leaving no doubt and avoiding putting the outcome of games on a single call or in the hands of the officials. The Buckeye defense did that in this one, picking off Dylan Raiola on the final drive of the game.
“But we talk a lot this year about leaving no doubt. Don’t leave it in a call or the official or whatever, take control of the game,” Day said. “Our defense went out and did that. That’s what we needed to do… This is what the defense needed right here. We need to be able to go out on the field and win a game in the 4th quarter and we did that.”

Next up for Ohio State is a trip to Penn State, so the Buckeyes will likely need their defense to be at their best yet again.
