Ryan Day seems pretty excited about the opportunity to work with athletic director Gene Smith for at least a few more years.
Wednesday, the Columbus Dispatch reported that Smith and Ohio State University had agreed to a four-year contract extension. He will also see a salary bump to $1.58 million. The new contract will keep him in Columbus through 2026.
After learning of the news, Day sent out a message on Twitter to congratulate Smith.
“Congratulations boss on your contract extension!” Day wrote on Twitter. “Thank you for everything you do for the Buckeyes! Well deserved! #gobucks #4moreyears.”

Smith hired Day to be the next head coach of the football program following the conclusion of the 2018 season, when Urban Meyer stepped down. Over the last two years, Day has lead the Buckeyes to a pair of B1G titles and two College Football Playoff appearances.
Smith has been at Ohio State since 2005. He’s been a collegiate AD since 1986, also spending time at Eastern Michigan, Iowa State and Arizona State.
The new agreement is subject to approval by the board of trustees, which is expected to happen at a meeting on Wednesday.
