Ryan Day evaluates play of Hudson Card, says OSU recruited QB out of high school

Ryan Day is very familiar with Hudson Card, Purdue’s starting quarterback and a player Day says Ohio State recruited out of high school. Now, the Buckeyes are preparing to face Card in a Week 7 matchup.

During Thursday’s radio show, Day discussed some of the challenges that Card presents for the OSU defense. He praised Card’s big-arm throws and ability to make plays with his legs.

“Good. He’s thrown for a bunch of yards and has a big arm, makes a lot of the throws. Someone we recruited coming out of high school and was a very good high school player. I just see him getting better,” said Day. “He has some good weapons around him, keeps plays alive. He’s a good athlete, was a good athlete in high school. The more he plays the better he’s getting.”

Coming out of high school, Card was a 4-star QB and the No. 59 player in the country for the class of 2020 per the 247 Sports Composite. He ultimately committed to Texas but is now getting his first extended shot as a starter with Purdue.

Through 6 games, Card is completing 63.6% of his passes and has thrown for 1,491 yards with 9 total touchdowns. He is a dynamic player for the Boilermakers, but that doesn’t change the immediate outlook for Saturday’s game.
