Ryan Day was asked about why Devin Brown didn’t play more after the win over Indiana on Saturday. Day promised more playing time for Brown shortly after naming Kyle McCord the starter for Week 1.
One of the main reasons for Day to not play Brown as much had to do with how close the game was. Day didn’t feel that it was a good idea to continue rotating quarterbacks as Ohio State struggled to pull away from the Hoosiers.
Ryan Day meeting with the media postgame.
Said he went into the game wanting to play Devin Brown more, but with the game remaining tight, he didn’t think it was right to keep moving the quarterbacks in and out of the game.

Brown played very few snaps compared to McCord, who handled the majority of the reps under center. McCord finished the game with 239 yards passing and 1 interception in the 23-3 season opener.
Brown was a former 4-star QB from the 2022 class. The 247Sports Composite ranked him as the No. 6 QB and No. 1 player out of Utah.
Perhaps fans will have a chance to see Brown play more against Youngstown State on Sept. 9. Either way, Day’s comments and decision-making illustrate McCord truly is the team’s starter at this point moving forward.
