Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes have looked as good as any team in college football at the start of the year, but they haven’t played a very difficult schedule.

That changes on Saturday as Ohio State hits the road to take on Oregon in a game with both B1G and College Football Playoff implications. On Tuesday during his press conference, Day said Will Howard’s ability to run the ball is huge in this game.

“He came here for a reason,” Day said about Howard. “He came here to play in games like this. He’s been looking forward to this game; obviously, we all have been.”

Howard hasn’t showcased the running ability yet, as he has rushed for only 64 yards. He does have 4 touchdowns on the ground. During his time at Kansas State, Howard showcased more of that rushing ability. He rushed for 921 yards during his time in Manhattan, including last year when he rushed for 351 yards and 9 touchdowns.

A good sign for Howard is that he is coming of his most productive game as a Buckeye in the win over Iowa. He had just 4 incompletions to go with 5 total touchdowns (4 passing) as Ohio State ran away from the Hawkeyes in the 2nd half.

With all of the playmakers all over the field for Ohio State, there figures to be rush opportunities for Howard on key 3rd down plays. How he does in those moments could be the difference in which team leaves Autzen Stadium with a win.
