Ryan Day launched his new podcast – aptly named, The Ryan Day Podcast – this past week with the 1870 society.
Right out of the gate, Day tackled an interesting topic of discussion when considering the future of college football. The Ohio State head coach delved into the expansion of the College Football Playoff from 4 teams to 12, a change that will take effect in the 2024-25 season.
Day and the Buckeyes know a thing or two about the CFP, too. Ohio State has cracked the 4-team field in 3 of the last 4 seasons. As Day says, each of those years was different and things will continue to be different once you start adding new teams and new variables.
Check out what he had to say below:
“Each year of those years was new, and it will be (in 2024). As we head into the new era of a 12-team playoff, it will be different,” Day said on his podcast, via Eleven Warriors. “Whether you get a bye or don’t get a bye or how that will all shake out will be unique. It will be a little bit more like the NFL style. You may play a team that you have already played. You may play in bad weather. All of these things start to become variables.”
The Buckeyes kick off their 2023 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 2 against Indiana. The game will be aired on CBS and it set to kick at 3:30 p.m. ET in Bloomington.
