Ryan Day knew that Brian Hartline was going to be a hot name on the market. Instead of letting him walk, Ohio State elected to give Hartline a promotion.
Ohio State named Hartline as its next offensive coordinator for the 2023 season. He will replace Kevin Wilson, who was named head coach at Tulsa prior to the Buckeyes’ 42-41 loss to No. 1 Georgia in the Peach Bowl.
Day seemed excited to get to work with Hartline even more after the recent promotion to offensive coordinator.
“Brian has also developed receivers at an unprecedented level, and has recruited as well or better than anyone in the country,” said Day. “Now he is recruiting for our entire offense and I think that will be really positive for our program.”

Hartline has been considered a rising star in coach as both a talent evaluator and recruiter.
Since taking over for Zach Smith in 2018 as the Buckeyes’ receivers coach, Hartline has been influential in the development of top-tier pass-catchers including Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and All-American Marvin Harrison Jr.
Hartline previously was linked to the Cincinnati postion following the departure of Luke Fickell to Wisconsin. Despite being considered a front-runner, Hartline later posted to Twitter that he was aware of the speculation, but “right now my heart is at Ohio State.”
