Ohio State hasn’t seemed to struggle with much, but the Buckeyes are thin at the RB position. So much so, in fact, that head coach Ryan Day has named Chip Trayanum – a linebacker for the Buckeyes and former RB – as backup.
Day said on Monday that the LB is “ready to go in the bullpen” if the Buckeyes should need an additional RB.
OSU still has LB Chip Trayanum "ready to go in the bullpen" at running back if need be, Ryan Day says.

Trayanum and the other Buckeyes are looking to fill the shoes of Evan Pryor, who was expected to start the season in the first RB position. The redshirt freshman was also expected to make a significant impact for the Buckeyes this season. A top-100 player, Pryor carried the football 21 times for 98 times and a 4.7 yards-per-carry average in 4 games in 2021 before redshirting the season.
Day called the use of Trayanum a sort of “last resort” previously, saying before the season “If a bomb ever went off, Chip Trayanum would actually be our fourth running back.”
It looks like the Buckeyes may need to explore that nuclear option if they want to see the national championship.
