Ohio State is in an offseason of change and turnover, looking to replace several key pieces for Ryan Day. The good news is the Buckeyes enter 2025 as the reigning champs, but the pressure is now on to repeat.

Ohio State especially needs to find a new starting quarterback and several pieces across the defense, including an offensive line that must replace 3 starters from the 2024 season. If ever there was a silver lining to injuries, the season-ending injuries to Josh Simmons and Seth McLaughlin last season opened up the door for some younger players to see action.

That included Austin Siereveld, a former in-state prospect in the 2023 recruiting class who plugged multiple holes on the line as a redshirt freshman. Siereveld especially saw action at left guard during the College Football Playoff run, but he has also been working at tackle this spring.

According to Day, keeping versatility among their offensive line is key, especially after what Ohio State experienced in 2024. The head coach praised Siereveld for the way he’s moved around and indicated he will be a starting offensive lineman this fall.

The final position for Siereveld is yet to be determined, but he will definitely be in the first 5 to start the season:

“The idea of playing a primary position and then a secondary position has been really good. I thought Austin did a nice job of moving around. I think he really took a big step for us,” said Day. “I don’t think we’re in a position to really get into who’s starting and who isn’t, at what positions.

“Austin Siereveld is going to be a starter for us. He’s an excellent player. Really had a good spring for us.”

Considering the role he played last fall, it is far from a surprising development for the Buckeyes, but it is still a key one. With so many starting roles up for grabs, Day’s staff knows Siereveld can be plugged into whatever role they need.

That undeniably takes some level of stress out of the offseason.
