Ryan Day has his Ohio State program off to a 4-0 start on the heels of a top-10 win over Notre Dame. It’s another ranked win to add to Day’s ledger, something that has come under fire recently.

In fact, it was Day’s big-game record that Lou Holtz partly targeted in comments leading up to the showdown. However, Day’s record in ranked matchups is quite strong.

According to a graphic from FOX College Football, Day is now 16-6 all-time against ranked opponents. That gives him a 72.7% winning percentage to lead all active coaches and just ahead of Kirby Smart’s 70% win percentage (28-12 record).

Last season, Ohio State was 2-2 against ranked opponents, including a Playoff loss to Georgia. In 2021, Ohio State was 3-2 against ranked opponents.

Of course, the main theme to recent losses for the Buckeyes has been Michigan with Day going 0-2 to the Wolverines in back-to-back years. Day will more than likely put his ranked record to the test down the road against Penn State and Michigan with those two programs off to top-10 starts in 2023.
