Ryan Day knows Ohio State has to ditch some of the slow starts that have plagued the team. However, he loves what he has seen out of his team when it comes to responding in the second half.
Facing Rutgers in Week 10, Ohio State hit halftime by a 9-7 deficit. While the defense was playing lights out, the offense left a lot to be desired.
Fortunately, things improved after halftime with 28 second-half points for the Buckeyes. TreVeyon Henderson exploded after halftime while Marvin Harrison Jr.’s 2 touchdowns came in the second half.
After the game, Day acknowledged some things to improve on but also said the team has been focused on finishing games better than a season ago. He believes the team is doing just that.
“I feel like this team finds a way. They don’t panic, they keep swinging, they keep fighting and we’ve been in halftime of these games and we say we want to play better in the second half this year, that was a huge part of our offseason, and you’re seeing that,” said Day. “They kind of keep saying we can play better in the first half so we don’t have to be in these situations, but the No. 1 goal is to win games.”
The head coach went on to say that part of what separates championship-level teams is the “stamina” to find a way to win.
“That’s what championship teams do. They continue week after week to have the stamina to find a way to win, so here we go. On to (Week 11),” Day explained.
Next up, Ohio State will return home for games against Michigan State and Minnesota before traveling to Ann Arbor for The Game.
“I feel like this team finds a way, they don’t panic. That is what championship team do. They week after week find a way to win”
