Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said Thursday afternoon that he has received positive news concerning Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin.
Day insisted the latest on Sayin constitutes “a decent outcome for us” from a long-term point of view. In the same breath, Day said Sayin won’t be back “next week or next month,” confirming he will miss the remainder of the regular season at least.
Here’s Day’s full comment regarding Sayin, via Eleven Warriors’ Chase Brown.
“I’ll kind of let him handle that, his family. All things considered, the outcome with the different options that were (available) kind of going into the situation thinking it could be, I think this has been a decent outcome for us and for him,” Day said. “We’ll kind of let him go through that, but this thing looks to be healing. It’s not gonna be next week or next month. It’s gonna take some time, but I think certainly for the long term, we feel like we’re on a good track here.”
Sayin suffered an elbow injury on Oct. 17 in the final minutes of Ohio State’s win over Indiana. Backup QB Luke Fahey has since filled in for Sayin and struggled during Ohio State’s loss to USC last week.
That puts the Buckeyes in a tough spot. Ohio State already has 2 losses on the season and cannot afford another heading into a November schedule that includes matchups vs. Oregon, Northwestern, Michigan and Nebraska.
