Ryan Day was asked about the concept of being “America’s team” at his Tuesday press conference. That question came as a result of Jim Harbaugh saying Michigan should be “America’s team” on Monday due to the adversity and naysayers the Wolverines have encountered this season.
While Day did respond to the question, he admittedly sidestepped the central idea in his response. Instead, the head coach simply pointed to every team having its own identity.
Overall, Day likes his group and the consistency and maturity they have shown through 11 weeks of the season:
“That’s a good question. I think I can tell you this: our guys — and I think someone else said it before. It’s been a long road to get to November, and each team has its own identity,” said Day. “Each team has its own dynamics, has its own journey. So here we are, in November, and I can tell you this: Coming to work every day with these guys. I mean, the consistency, the maturity, the competitiveness, the look in their eye, this is a great team to be around. Great guys.”
Overall, Day is concerned about his guys and the players that “put it on the line” week in and week out:
“I go back to this: It’s about these guys on the team. It’s about the guys that put it on the line every single Saturday in the game and put the work in here,” Day explained. “So we’re gonna do it again this week and keep swinging.”
