The start to 2018 for No. 4 Ohio State was a good one.
The Buckeyes put 77 points on the board to beat Oregon State and then moved onto Week 2 where the team hosted Rutgers, its first Big Ten opponent of the season. The Scarlet Knights proved to be no match.
Ohio State went on to win 52-3.
At 2-0, the Buckeyes now travel to face No. 15 TCU in the state of Texas.
Each week, Ohio State holds a weekly press conference and interim coach Ryan Day — who has stepped in on gamedays to start the season for suspended coach Urban Meyer — has talked with the media.
On Monday, Day had this to say ahead of playing the Horned Frogs:
Acting head coach Ryan Day on offense: "We look across the board and we're pretty deep. A lot of playmakers. That, matched with the tempo, and our ability to protect (the QB) right now, is really good."

Ryan Day praised TCU’s veteran defense. “You’re not going to get anything free. You’re going to have to earn everything you get."

Ryan Day credits "the culture of our team" for things continuing to go smoothly for Ohio State while Urban Meyer has been suspended.

“I think that when the games get tighter, every play matters even more,” Day said.
He said the mistakes are still there, and need to be corrected because they’ll be amplified against a team like TCU.

Ryan Day on Tate Martell's performance: "Nothing he did surprised us … As we've said before, we plan to play Tate. How much kind of depends on the game moving forward." https://t.co/G25MoQ7v0g

Day on TCU: "I think that, when you play in big games, you have to take care of the football. Every play is so much more important. But we're going to be who we are. We've gotta focus on us. If we play the way we know we can play, that's going to give us the best chance to win."

Ryan Day said Urban Meyer's feedback to him today after Saturday's win was to make sure they don't overlook their mistakes as they prepare for tougher games. "We have to make corrections. And we got to be critical of ourselves moving forward."

Ryan Day on Ohio State's offensive line play: "Overall, it's been solid." Said communication has consistently improved and Michael Jordan has "done a nice job" in move to center.

Ryan Day said the Buckeyes are asking Dwayne Haskins to read a defender – sometimes a defensive end, sometimes a linebacker, sometimes a safety – on mostly every play.

Ryan Day on TCU coach Gary Patterson: "One of the best coaches in the past 20 years of college football."
— Dan Hope (@Dan_Hope) September 10, 2018
"You shouldn't be getting into Twitter fights with people.”
Ryan Day’s wisdom is unparalleled.

Day on his second game as acting HC: "Anytime you're doing something new for the first time, there's a learning curve. Some things you do well, other things you don't do so well. So anytime you do something a second time, you feel a little more comfortable in that role."
— Derrick Webb (@dw1509) September 10, 2018
“If you don’t think it’s a big game, try losing it,” Ryan Day on preparing the same way for every game.
